I went to the Naga fireballs festival two years ago. Fantastic fun. I went with a girl from Bangkok who was totally blown away by the experience. I was pretty suss at first, because the fireballs were coming from the Lao side of the river, and there was the theory that it was the Lao military firing off fireworks or AK-47s!, but then a couple came -- quite clearly -- from the middle of the Mekong.
I'd recommend attending, but book your accommodation long in advance because it's incredibly popular with Thais. And the weather can be an issue. If it rains, the bang fai phya nak often fizzle out.
