Hey IJ,I think that the Thai people bring offerings of food and drink to the temples,so maybe "being the temple" aint such a bad idea!At least people would take off their shoes before they walked all over you.
whealy just thought I'd mention that Pattaya is only a two hour ride from Bangkok.Not the cultural centre of Thailand to be sure,But if TG per square foot and Agogos aplenty are part of your criteria it's something to consider.It can't equal the friendlier atmosphere,nicer beaches and overall scenery of the south,but there are beaches,diving,watersports,go-cart tracks,and legions of women on an epic scale.It is the origional Sin City by the Sea.Trust me, a 22 year old male can't go too wrong there.
Try to get south to Patong Beach and the Mai Thai bar
,but if your schedule doesn't allow for it,Pattaya is a helluva backup plan.IMHO
