I was just wondering about the crime in Thailand. Am i able to leave my valuables on the beach while i am swimming? i would not expect to on a main beach here such as bondi (sad world we live in hey) without them getting stolen eg. wallet, camera, phone.

Do they have some kind of safes on the beach? or some kind of system?

Also, do they have bars on the beach in Patong? that is what i plan to be doing most of the time....

If you have a room with a safe in it I suggest you keep everything you cannot afford to lose......passport, credii cards, travellers cheques etc.....in it and just take enough BHT for your day or night out

If there isn't a safe in your room there will be one in the reception where they will give you an envelope to put your stuff in and it all goes in the communal safe....some make you sign for this-some don't

Travelling with your boyfriend should help as one can swim whilst the other watches etc however best general rule is not to entice potential theives

I do this all over the world when travelling and do not consider Thailand to be any worse than Bali or Aus......in fact I have dropped BHT in Thailand and had a tap on the shoulder with a smile and the money returned....both times by kids and both times i just gave it to them as it was worth less than a $AUS
