Sorry but I agree with him.. Unless your going to either get them a visa to come to you or planning to go and be with them on a longer term what is the point ??
All that missing each other, second guessing motives, wondering what will happen, heartache etc.. Not to mention the cost.. Just get a new one next tour if its just a few weeks a year.
Only possible exception is if you really are just doing at as a good deed to help someone in life as a charitabe act.. I personally cannot see any reason to buy a pen pal for 50 weeks of the year. Its either your worth continueing something with so lets do the visa get together start a relationship and see what happens or its just a bit of fun.
