Phi Phi

I was there in September and it was a huge shock to see after the Tsunami. I had not been there for about five years and the changes are dramatic. The beaches and sea are as beautiful as ever and there are a lot more shops, restaurants and things to do etc. However, the side of the island where the wave came in is absolutely destroyed. Everything is gone. No hotels, palm trees, shops... nothing is there. Just beach, ocean and some chairs. It is still a nice place but tourism has also destroyed it. The Maya Bay where the Beach was filmed used to be an excellent place to snorkel, now it is dirty with fuel from the tourist boats and hardly even worth stopping at.
The best thing about Phi Phi is that it is still a smaller island with a relaxing feel to it. Would I go there again? Sure I would... but it is just sad to see it the way it is now.

Here are some pics of it in September.
