my GF did exactly this. Stayed in a temple for a week or so to cleanse the soul type thing and stop 'bad things happening'(eg;recent car accident). She did sneak in the odd phonecall when they went out to get food but other than that it is strictly forbiden.
Can I ask how old she is as it is a big deal to turn 25 and they often go to the temple for a week, something to do with a halfway point in their life.
Still entirely possible it's a lie of course but they tend not to use Temples and Buddha as an excuse.
On the other hand what can you do? Not a lot except trust her... And if she really is going to the Temple what you think will not stop her.
