S'true Benjy, we were being experimented on by the Navy (I wasn't in the Navy by the way, just making that clear!) One ship was to take Larium (HMS Newcastle) and the other ship was on Doxycycline (HMS Cornwall) this was while transiting around the Far East and lots of shore runs into Malarial areas! The doctors on the ships were to monitor the situation and write reports and what ever else they got jiffed to do.

I was on the Larium ship, we were all to take the first tablet on the same day, as it is a weekly phrophylactic. I took mine, climbed up three decks at the pointy end of the ship to my cabin and right at the top threw up over this Big hairy matelot bloke below me. He was green with a big Larium tablet stuck to his forehead, no.........I mean green with little wheelie-bobbles and speaking klingon in strange dialects, then this dog with a spanner in it's mouth and little boots started shouting at this parrot that was stuck in the wires that run all over the ship to get down as it wasn't safe up there and then I fainted..........That was one whole tablet!! Well, most of it! Fan-bloody-tastic! You can normally spend a total fortune getting to that stage of wacked out and the Government was giving it us for free!

I told the doctor about it as we had to, he suggested breaking the tablet up into mash potato, which with the amount of lumps in Navy mash wouldn't have made much of a difference. Anyway, like a prat, that night, I tried again and threw up over the table. This time the ship was a big orange bouncy castle with midgets selling ice creams and..........................anyway, I changed from Larium to the other stuff after that, I had no further problems. However, not before I had stashed a few packets of the Larium away in my locker!! Taken in moderation as I said...............it's kind of different!

Anyway, take the stuff if prescribed by your doctor IMHO. You need to be taking it before you enter a Malarial area for you immunity to be built up and ready for attack. If you don't get on with Larium (and you will know soon enough if you don't!) See the Doc and he will try you with something else!!

Now the NAPS (Nerve Agent Pre-treatment System - Atropine) they gave us in the Gulf!! Whoooooooooooooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooooooo is that some seriously good shit man!! 555555555555555555555 But that's another story, for another time!
