Compulsory Charges for Christmas Dinners

We have friends staying locally for Christmas who are
upset by being told their hotel will charge 4000bht /head for a Christmas dinner they will not eat.
What are the hotel's legal rights in making this charge?
Can our friends refuse to pay?

I have told them they should not pay, but they are timid and not sure.
Any ideas welcome.
