Ive had bottles of water, beer, food, glasses and a tv tried to be charged to me on checkouts at various hotels saying that I had either damaged (glasses and Tv) or used them form the minibar when I hadnt. This happens too frequently and I can only conclude that this arises from tourists just rolling over and accepting it.

However when dealing with Thais in a confrontational situation such as this it alway pays to keep your cool, not raise your voice, smile lots and threaten immediately with TAT/police.

The water costs 50-75 cents US. Is it worth it to stand in the hotel for 30 minutes trying to get 50-75 cents taken off of your bill? Not for me it isn't. Yeah, if they tried to charge me for a TV that would be a different story.

And maybe the maid drank it. Well, did you leave her a tip at the end of your stay?
