Ok so what i really need to know then, is Pattaya just as good a phuket or not? I hear pattayas night life is one of the best which is our number1 thing  , and does pattaya have all the activitys that say phuket might have? and if booking somewhere to stay in pattaya, which "suburb"(i dont know if you guys call them suburbs in thailand LOL) would be the best location for us? close to nightlife etc.

Pattaya has a better go-go scene than Phuket...hands down. Some board members prefer Phuket and Bangkok because there is a better chance of getting a 'real girlfriend experience' (a girl who is after fun/friendship rather than a shallow/soulless shag). Pattaya beach is terrible and the water is questionable to swim in. Saying this, patong is not the best beach on Phuket. Karon, kata etc are better and are within reach of patong.
I dont want to tell you what you should or shouldnt do but it would be a real shame for you and your mates to visit Thailand but not experience things other than its nightlife and the odd island. Bangkok or Chiand Mai are great places to get to see the non-tourist side of Thailand. While your at it you will no doubt run into plenty of Thai girls, probably with less motivation to extract money from you than their Phuket or Pattaya counterparts.
