Is it just my imagination, or is everything in Thailand related to time?
I have been reading this forum for a few weeks now, taking a special interest in all the warnings posted by BM's. I have been taken in by one or two of them in the past but seem to have found a way of avoiding most of them.
As soon as I get off the plane I slip into Thailand Time!
Walk out of the airport building, light up a smoke and tell all the scammers, touts and taxi drivers that I will do nothing until I have finished. The price always seems to drop by 50%! And no more hassels!
At the hotel; standing at the counter asking about joiner fee, I always smile and never try to push for an instant decision. Eventually, no joiner fee and 30% discount if I stay an extra 3 Days!
In the bars; the girls are always pushing for me to have another drink. I say Ta-tar;- mai pen rai! (2 of the 6 phrases of Thai that I know) and all of a sudden all the girls want to sit and chat!
I hope that others have noticed this sort of reaction and I just don't go into '60s Hippie flashback mode every time I go to LOS.
