I was very lucky in that I was invited to the home of a non BG TG when I was last in Bangkok. She lved in Nakhon Ratchasima. What I was expecting was a shanty style shack with corregated roof, what I arrived at was a Swiss style Chalet with security gates and air con.

I really did enjoy the experience but I found it somewhat difficult to know how to cope with the endless stream of people who came to see me. I did not know who they were and why they were there. I decided not to try and Wai them and get it all wrong so I adopted an English approach and shook hands and bowed a lot. I only wish that I spoke Thai because I felt a little awkward not being able to say anything intelligible when poeple had gone to such a lot of effort to make me welcome.

I thought it was great fun though and perhaps just going with the flow is the best approach. Expect the unexpected... and take a good dictionary.
