I was being a little facitious with my last comment, as when opening a bank account in the UK, you need to prove your identity and address, i.e. utility bill etc.

OK, so Thailand may be a little different, but I am still a little sceptical about the fact that some people think you can just get on a plane, fly to a country and then stroll into a bank and open an account just like that. Banks usually (and perhaps it wasn't noted that this was the first word in my earlier post) like to know where people live and have different rules for residents and non-residents. This is also a feature today with all the new "anti money-laundering" rules that have been introduced recently. I LivinLOS stated he has had no problems opening accounts all around the world......but I think that was a case of "that was then and this is now". Things are changing all the time and whilst some borders are opening as in the case with the European Union, other borders are being tightened.

Going back to Thailand and the ease in which you seem to have opened your account, I would be a little wary of using any bank who was as casual as you state, because if they are casusal in that instance, what will they be like when it's not in your favour ? I did do a little bit of searching around the net after the replies to my post and I looked at Bangkok Bank's site whioch stated that if you are non-resident then you must have non-immigrant visa AND a work permit.
