Trouble on board LTU flight

Passenger scuffle forces plane to divert

Fears of a full-scale brawl breaking out on board a plane bound for Bangkok forced pilots to divert the aircraft to the German city of Dusseldorf.

The captain called the trip off while in Ukraine airspace after a drunken male passenger went on a rampage causing chaos on board.

The Airbus jet, operated by German holiday airline LTU, had departed from Munich in Germany on Monday night with 212 passengers on board when the 45-year-old man began misbehaving.

One passenger reported that flight attendants managed to handcuff and bind the man and put him under a blanket to keep him calm, but said that he and his friends became angry when an emotional female passenger approached and punched him.

German police said the problematic passenger disembarked quietly at Dusseldorf, escorted by four police.

Passengers were accommodated in hotels overnight and the flight took off again, without the troublemaker, the following morning.
