From what i hav read it seems the air-conditioned coaches r not bad. The money i save by not flying could go into my "pleasure" budget Why.. i also save on a night's stay in a hotel! And the train journey will give me a peek at the thai countryside at dusk and dawn. Its just an overnight journey. Hmmm.. I think i like the idea..

Have done the daylight train from Surat to Bangkok a few times when I was living on Samui, I hated it. If you dont want to pay the higher Bangkok Airways fares from Samui to Bangkok, then look into the cheaper alternative and fly Thai from Surat to Bangkok.

Long train trips are OK if you have the time, but you've only got a few days here and there. As they say "UP TO YOU"
