One of my VISA cards from a major Swedish bank charge a minimum fee of 35 SEK (~175 baht) or 3%, whatever is highest when used with ATMs.
The exchange rate itself used to be very competive and better than cash exchange rates in Thailand.
For payments in shops there is no fee, as the merchant has to pay that fee, but as we know, it is common that the merchant add that to the bill here, while it is not legal to do so in e.g. Sweden.
But in Asia I would not use the card to pay for anything due to the high risk of fraud, I only use it as ATM card. I read somewhere that Malaysia and Inodnesia is one of the highest card fradaulant countries in the world and Thailand shortly after. So dont use your card in a shop or restaurant, just use it to withdraw money from ATMs. (And even there you have to be careful these days, in every country around the world including Sweden)
