Software Virtualisation (techie!)

For all you real techies out there, I'm playing with a piece of software (SVS) now that has huge implications for my line of work.

It's from Altiris, and basically allows you to run software on a pc virtually without affecting any other part of your system - think testing beta software and I think you'll know where I'm coming from. Unlike Virtual machine sw which consumes large amounts of disk space/memory, this has almost zero overhead other than the actual software installation.

For example, I have just been looking at the 2.0 Firefox beta. All I did was install the agent, and then activate the Firefox app. When i was finished playing I simply turned off the Firefox layer and my machine was no different to what it was before I tested it.

Very cool software, and will probably revolutionise my job by allowing corps to easily deploy software to their corporate desktops without affecting any other part of an operating system. It will also be a huge bonus for developers by making it so so easy to test their software on different browsers and software combinations

You can get the software here (free for personal use) and you can download ready to use apps here
