There may be an alternative to Google but it is only available in US for the time being, launched by Yahoo, and those who tried said it cant compete with Google's system, regarding targeted or revenue wise.

I think Yahoo would end up the same, it was them that shopped the Chinese 'dissidents' identities to the Chinese authorities in order to protect their stake in the Chinese internet boom.
Corporate 'morality' = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and nothing else.
