HEYWOOD AND RIVER,
I met my ex-wife and we both fell in love on the night we met. We were happy together for many years. I still believe that she is the best thing that ever happened to me in my life, and I have told her so. In spite of a difficult divorce, which was very costly to me, we are still very good friends. If I were to figure out how much she cost me for every month we were together it would be many thousands of dollars. Whether you pay by the month or in the end, women are usually very costly. Ask any man who has been divorced. If he had money, she got some. If he had a good job, she may have gotten some of his future earnings. TGs believe in getting paid as you go, but in LOS from what Thais have told me, it is very difficult for the wife to get money in a divorce, so it is not surprising. Also consider that they don't have welfare as we know it, and only a few get a pension which probably doesn't amount to much anyhow.
So I do believe in love at first sight. I have heard it said before that a TG can not fall in love in 2 weeks time, that they are different from farangs that way, and that if they tell you they love you, then they are playing a game. Maybe true. I have had it happen to me, but I didn't get burned because in one case I was lucky, and she chose another man, in another case it was apparent to me that she was lying. When they say, "I love you too much, darling," that is a tip-off. In the third case, last month I got an email from the last TG I was with 5 days before saying, "Love and miss you always", " Dont forget me, I never forget you," and "I wait for you come back to me." That was the last email I got from her, and the same thing happened with a different girl last year, except she wrote for 4 months. In the 3rd case, although I miss her tremendously, I had already decided that my feelings for her weren't strong enough that I would pursue her. I miss her just the same.
After all of this, I still believe in love. Call me crazy. And I find it hard to believe that a young Italian woman(my ex) can fall in love at first sight, but that it could never happen to even one Thai woman. Especially a young woman. They do watch American movies, and I think some are influenced.
Maybe impossible? Who knows for sure?
As P.T. Barnum, the famous circus entrpreneur once said, "There's a sucker born every minute." That's for sure. It may be the BG credo. But someone else once said, "'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all." It was a British poet(Elizabeth Barret Browning?). I think they are both right, but when forced by events to choose one sage precept over the other, I'll go with the poet.
