Through checkin

It has been the norm to check your luggage through to your final destination, well it appears that its a growing trend for airlines to not permit this any longer, where the passenger has more than one ticket.

Say you have a ticket Cork/London/Singapore and a separate ticket Singapore/Phuket, you will have your luggage checked through to Singapore, as it is on one ticket, however your luggage will need to be collected in Singapore and rechecked through to Phuket, regardless of existing interline agreements.

Some of the airlines that have been reported to have started this, are
  • British Midland
  • Briitish Airways
  • Air Canada
  • Virgin Atlantic

And this list of airlines is expected to increase. The airlines are stating security as the reason behind. This could affect a signifcant number of BM's as alot fly into Bangkok and then fly down to Phuket on a separate ticket. Something to be aware of in this ever changing world of air travel.
