Easy and reliable but I don't know that travl agents also used it....
For our return flight (On June 2nd, after Nicke's birthday....), we booked our flight through airasia.com. The reservation system in easy to use, but you must carry your passport (or a copy) on you when booking as you are prompted to enter your passport number and expiring date. My thai girlfriend had also to write her ID card number + expiring date.
Price with Air Asia was 1000 B/ person + tax. Total was 2440 B for 2 people (the normal fare with Thai Airways for 1 passenger).
Air aisia has a seat free policy so you are not assigned a seat number. Aircraft was a boeing 737 (about 120 places). The journey time was 1h20. No free drinks on board (and you cannot bring your own drink & food). With Thai Airways, the flight BKK-HKT was with an old Airbus A300. It took 1h05 but the landing was a little bit rough ! (a rivet popped and a part of the roof's garnitured collapsed, belive it or not).
So I used to fly with Thai and will use it again in the future but I enjoyed the Air Asia experience and will use their services again when I'll have the opportunity.

PS: When I was at Phukter Airport, I've seen that Orient Thai have also cheaper prices than the Thai Airways e-ticket fares. Any experiences ?
