A style similar to mine
When I first went to LOS, I got the train up to Chiang Mai from BKK. This was in 1993 (IIRC).
Then I decided to go to Phuket. I got a bus down from Chiang Mai (8-10 hrs) to BKK and ended up in a bys station. I asked if there was a hotel close by and mentioned I wanted to go to Phuket the next day. ''Bus go now'' she shrieked and sold me a ticket and a porter ushered me to the bus. I was the only paleface on the bus. The mossies and several other insects soon realised this and by the morning (overnight journey) I bitten to 'ell.
We stopped off by some ferry where all the Thais got off and went to Koh Samui (I think). I then transferred to a minibus and completed the journey to Phuket.
I thoroughly recommend internal flights even if you do get delayed for an hour or so, it's better than a 12 hour bus journey.
