Viking, as you probably know from your research and there are many good threads on here covering most Visa aspects a Visa in my humble opinion represents the least of a problem.
In brief-
Generally, other then the bog standard tourist 30 day Visa you can get a Multi-entry 1 year Visa here in the UK prior going, valid for 1 year and renewable every 90 days at a border near you. Depending on your age you can also get a Retirement Visa, well I can anywaym with no trips at all during that year period but you need to have a certain amout of bhats in your account. Rules I trust have recently changed as in the past you also needed prove of regular income, now you just need about 800K I believe.
