nay-sayers, skeptics and pundits
Phuket-1998. Met Kay (says she is from Chiang Mai) at the Honey bar in Patong. 38 years old...just like me. Looks 25. First night I ate some crap from a street vendor and got sick as a dog. Couldn't leave the hotel. For 2 days, Kay took care of me, bringing me ice candy etc until I recovered and could hit the town again. Methinks, this is one great women...especially after all the Thai girls I have met and heard about. Had to leave with my ship, but began planning my next trip to Thailand. Kay agrees to meet me in Bangkok 3 months later. Have the time of my life. Girl can sing Chinese Karaoke like a canary! Brother in law takes us out ( along with 20 or so Thais whom I knew none) to Karaoke restaurant. For 6 hours we drank, ate and sang in a private room. All the while I was expecting to foot the bill for this evening of decadence, but when the check came (12,000 tbh) Brother in law insisted on paying all of it! I took care of the tip...2000thb. After everything I experienced and heard about Thais, I was floored!
Anyway, while stationed in Japan, I see Kay 3 or 4 times a year. Unfortunately, my affinity (as my Dad calls it) for Asian women got the better of me, and I found a full-time Japanese girlfriend (more on Japanese women if anyone is interested). Went back to Thailand to see Kay before committing to said Japanese girl...wanted to make sure I was really in love with Japanese girl! Met Kay in BKK again, but could only think of sushi...knew I was really in love! Flew back to NRT and married Japanese girl.
August 2001. My ship was heading for port call in Phuket. Emailed Kay, and guess who was waiting for me when I arrived....Kay! Had great time, Fantasea, Karaoke, Etc. Told her I married a Japanese girl...she was non-plussed, but tolerant. Fornicated once...not the same, I wasn't into it..actually I was deep into it but it didn't feel right being married and all (reading this, Cadia?) So, sent her on her way, with blessings for her family and a few thousand baht (she had never asked me for a satang!)
4 months later Osama and Friends decide they want to wake the sleeping giant and fly airliners into NYC. Next day I get an email from Kay: " I'm so sorry to what happened to your country hope you and your family are ok" This is an exact quote. Kay spoke no English. She had this email translated into English just so she could send it to me.
Anyone who thinks Thai girls are just in it for the money needs to keep looking...there are plenty that are Jai Dee....even bar girls! Kay was a gem, and anyone who knows her will be a better person for it!
