I think a better route would be Bangkok to Phuket, back to BKK then from there down to pattaya for your time there. Or the other way around.
Flights are cheaper/more regular from BKK, while you are there look for One 2 Go travel, my flight was under 2000 baht with them.
Bangkok -> Pattaya by taxi is 1200-2000 one way though cheaper on the way back.
