Not right on topic Pabs but you might want to stay in either Jomtien or naklua.....away from the madding crowd a littel so to speak.....
I often stay at Nirvana in Jomtien which is a nice all studios appt style hotel just 3 mins walk to the beach at he end of the soi....very nice...
Also the beach is much nicer at Jomtien than Patts (which is not swimmable IMHO)
also Jomtien has some nice reataurants and bars and has more of a village feel in the sois which you don't see in Patts....
I go there for diving and agree with DB above....its not Phuket......but the diving has its own charm....
