Much more fun as half the film is shot in Sydney and its
interspersed with English. No english sub-titles though.

"Tom Yum Goong"(named after the hot shrimp soup) is awesome. It is called The Protector in US, The Warrior King in UK, and sometimes also Honor of the Dragon(which makes no sense at all). In LOS, it is also called "Ong Bak 2".

I bought a copy of the DVD in LOS last March, because the girl I took to Samui only likes to watch ghost movies and martial arts movies. She also claimed to be a good personal friend of Tony Jaa. Yeah, right, and Steven Seagal is my best buddy!

Anyhow, I wasn't expecting much, given her taste in films. We popped it in the DVD player and Tony Jaa proceeded to blow my mind. He has just amazing moves. Some awesome kicks I'd never seen before, and just brilliant athleticism. He also has a very likable personality, and though maybe not as funny as Jackie Chan, he's funnier than Jet Li, and at least the equal of either in his martial arts skills, IMHO. Read an interview with him. He is an icon in LOS, but still very a humble guy. He has a gift and a real work ethic that you seldom see in Thais, been studying martial arts since he was a kid, and his father was a Muay Thai guy, altho Tony goes way beyond Muay Thai with a form known as Muay Khotsam, IIRC. He is also skilled in Brazilian, and several other martial arts forms, but really wants to make the new Thai style known.

The movie is the story of a boy and his elephant. Very heart-warming, a little corny, but full of dynamite action, and some good laughs, and the super-evil bad guy, who is trying to take over the world is a KATOEY. Only in LOS!

The movie was supposed to be released in the US on August 25, and I saw a poster that said "Coming Atrraction" in a theater near here, but haven't seen the film come there yet. Maybe it was delayed. I'd like to see it on the big screen!

Don't miss it!!

BTW, the DVD I saw in March, that I bought in Samui, had English subtitles. the guy who played the Australian cop, who is Thai, was also very funny, and there is a real cute Thai babe in the movie, too.
