Really shouldn't make a difference if a girl is from north or south. However i beg to differ in saying they all look the same. IMHO i think the girls in the north have a more "chinese" look to them and are a little lighter in skin tone. And by north i mean in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
But yeah at the same time theres no way i'd be able to tell whether a girl is from the north or south just by looking at her. But when they speak you can normally tell whether she's from north or south as the r's become l's and l's become r's. Although the Thais might be able to tell just by looking at someone.
