The main worry now is Thaksin's reaction. As long as he lays down and plays dead, things will proceed peacably. However, he is a hot-headed, unpredictable power-monger so it is still possible he may attempt a counter-coup, at which point things could get bloody.

Let's hope it doesn't happen.

As to how the coup is progressing now, it's still peaceful and many Thais still don't have any clue that it's happened. Outside my house, workers are tearing up roads and traffic is weaving their way through it as usual.

The generals are in a meeting this morning with government officials now and we'll know more by lunchtime.

LivinLos, your comments on your girlfriend's apathy are hilarious. She is probably typical of most Thais in her attitude about the news. My poor wife has had her eyes pried open by her media-hound husband, so she's rivetted to the TV news, furiously taking notes on important points to relate to me and looking up difficult words like, 'constitution'.
