movies-comedies

52 hours on planes during last week had me musing the other day that I don't really go to see comedies as such anymore.....sure I'll catch the new Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell or Adam Sandler movie on a plane (one of each this week actually).....or buy a $2 DVD in LOS.......but I do not pay to see these films at the box office as there is not much more there than the odd wise ass comment..and no real need for a large screen..."small" films I guess I would call them

Got me thinking about what is really funy to me in cinema and I realised it is not the comedy genre where I get my laughs but more in serious film with real wit.....and possibly also the kind of ridiculous violence and juxtaposition (irony) in settings.......(ie Kill Bill where a soccer mom and Uma are knife fighting it out in a kitchen and the daughter comes in so they stop and make mommy style luvvy duvvy conversation with her)....

or...where a guy inadvertently has his head shot off by someone who doesn't mean to do it and is just waving a gun around or something (sticking to the Tarantino style).....am I a sick man???....

Or perhaps it is just a really offbeat line by someone in a serious film that has real portent....you know the kind of thing Bill Murray or Ray Winstone may deliver....

Are films meant to be comedies anymore or just funny here and there????.....heck there are no more "Life of Brian's" or classics as such to my knowledge....where you really are ROTFLMAO for the whole film.....

Am I missing some great new films????........anyone have any new or classic ROTFLMOA films they'd like to share????
