Well, as you'd know already, Nana Plaza is 3 vertical floors of various activities, IMHO it is looking tired and the constant farang-foot-traffic has aged the building considerably. It is a cool place to go and have a few beers with mates as all the clubs do not follow the standard go-go layout . i.e. a stage in the middle and seating in 2-3 tiers around the walls of the bar. Quite a few Nana Plaza bars have corners/tables you can sit in and chat with mates, and for this reason it is also good to pick up a girl and get to know her a bit, have a nice chat.
Cowboy is all on street level and is 250-300 metres long with literally one club next to another all the way along. Most of the clubs are your typical go-go club layout, with anywhere from 10-70 girls working in any bar. The shows and dancing are a bit more revaelaing than those at Nana Plaza, and it is not uncommon to see a stage full of nude girls doing the Bangkok shuffle in Soi Cowboy bars. I find the girls to be a bit less pushy in Soi Cowboy and the vibe to be a bit more laid back, probably because it is just spread over more space (instead of being clubs stacked on top of one another)
For the sake of a 5 minute ride on the BTS, just check them both out and you can make your own judgement.
