For instance, Etisalat is the one and only telecommunication company there. They control ALL the mobile and fixed lines in the state.The shares when originally floated were ridiculously low,but someone close to me made an absolute killing .

The Gulf states have too much look of 'bubble' for me - always have.
Not to say there wasn't (isn't !) money to be made but too much subject to governement whim , too many people sitting on empty properties. I think if you really know the market there then are are some opportunities but personnally think that market has had it's day (for the moment at least).
