I have always been a proponent of buying electronics "at home". Warranty is the major issue, but additional issues such as line voltage may also be an issue. Last time I was in Singapore Airport, I found the same model camera that I have bought in the US a few weeks earlier costing 10% more than I paid.
For those living in the US and carrying an American Express, remember that Amex will double the warranty if purchased in the US (up to one additional year on Amex and up to three additional years for Centurion Card members). Personally I have had two pieces of electronics repaired/replaced at the expense of Amex.
