TaiLife has been taken over by people who know nothing about gyms or fitness. From what I can gather they are more interested in turning the place into an upmarket members club with fine dining by the pool. The yearly rates have gone up but not too much so it will keep the CC away. The upside is that the gym is never that busy so you don't have to wait for anything. Thai women get in at a cheap rate. If you don't want to commit to a year then I would wait as I have heard that California Wow! are coming to town (I asked them and they said that Phuket was in there future plans). Juncelyon, perhaps? Outside of Patong there is the newly opened Kathu Fitness Centre (very Thai), Easy Fitness near Central, a new one at the Boat Lagoon, Club Asia in Phuket Town (excellent), and another new one up Bang Tao way. You pays your money, you takes your choice.
