I have a D70, and the 18-70 kit lens is ideal for landscapes and around town. I have found that the polarizer filter is a permanent attachment and a really good investment. I also took a Hoya filter kit with an ND grad and an orange grad filter, very useful.

Also, I think taking your tripod is a must. The sunsets are breathtaking and you will want longer exposures to do them justice and to get what you want. They don't weigh much and you will regret leaving it behind.
