Output being AV only ??? Nicke said that he was streaming the output over his home net (wirelessly) and viewing with VLC (video lan client, a common tool for TV streaming) in his bedroom. NorhTec produce a tiny low power small form factor PC for about 100 USD so adding one to the bedroom for TV / MP3 / Video streaming or a slimbox or other media extender all becomes interesting in the whole home solutions.

I now have the xbox 360 set up as a media extender and by using MCE on the HTPC in the theater can stream TV in real time to the xbox (but dont really want to give up the xbox to the bedroom its all wired into the projector and 5.1 ) as well as my media collection of music and if I wanted rip the DVD collection to WMV.. Whole house music and video jukebox with live pausable TV / TIVO features also.

For TV I currently have UBC that can be fed out to one place at a time.. (LCD TV in main room, projector in theater main room, or junky TV in bedroom) but cannot multisource.. Adding a dreambox would be one solution (2av out source) but ideally I would rather use the codeshare system but within the HTPC using MyTheater or similar DVB viewing card and a codeshare hack.. That way UBC could be in bedroom and hacked UBC could be in theater.

Another benefit of the internal HTPC system is that by keeping the signal from the DVB card, to the image processing, digital you get a cleaner signal.. Outputting by S-Video or (shudder) composite outputs leads to signal loss and bad image quality.. If you keep it in the PC you can actually use some good tools like the dScaler (whose domains I still maintain) open source deinterlacing filters or ffdshow filters on the directshow filtergraphs. Definately not mainstream for this forum but if putting UBC up on a 120 inch screen it looks poor and anything you can do to clean the signal up and presever as much detail as possible helps..
