The good (depending how you look at it) news is that I'm not strapped for cash - I'm just cheap. I was hoping to get by on 40-60,000 a month including my room and everything. I spent last winter in a little surf town in Costa Rica. It was quite a bit more expensive there though from the looks of it. Most of the rooms were about 2-3 times more expensive than what I'm seeing so far for the same anemities. When I was in Hermosa, Costa Rica last year I could drive to the next closest town to get something to eat, but still only until about 10 or so. I was hoping to just be able to go on a little walk to get a bite to eat. So as far as late night eating and general stuff being open Patong would probably be the best bet for me? When you say rent a bike - you mean a motorcycle, right? Are there places you can rent one for pretty cheap. Do you get harrased while driving much? When I was in Costa Rica I got stopped almost every time I went by a cop outside of the city. They always wanted to check your papers to make sure everything was in check. I did have Wisconsin plates though, so I'm sure that didn't help! Thanks again for your information. -db
