Agree with marc.. I used to always stay one month on my vacations in a BG room.. Wifey would arrange for other girls to share and we took over thier room.. Toilet wasnt even in the room but out and down the hall.. Only thing that annoyed me was no hot water to shave.. This was our vacations from me making huge money in Europe, driving round in flash motors, it wasnt a money thing.. It was how she wanted to spend her holiday..

Also while it may sound patronizing its not bad when viewed in how they have grown up.. When they have lived in a wooden shack.. slept 6 to a bed.. Only got an outside rain water bowl bathroom.. And then you have a room in Patong, cieling fan, fridge, on suite bathroom, tiled floor, etc etc etc.. Its not so bad..

Also quite honestly when I was young I lived in some rough places.. I spent times living in cars and vans, I had nowhere to live when I was 16 ish.. Even slept rough a bit.. I dont consider myself badly off, I had a home I could have gone back to (but too stubborn to do so).. But a BG room would not be worse than places I have lived at times..

Feel much more sorry for the Burmese who are living in the tin shacks next to construction sites and totally abused and ripped off by the Thais that employ them..
