I understand what you mean.. However you cant really think of Patong as real Thailand anyway... Patong is Thai torremelenos, Thai lite, whatever.. Its a farang party town within Thailand. So inevitably it will provide the services that tourist farangs want.
The bigger possible change is the raising of expectations.. I am thinking that once some of the upper end FL's start seeing shops they can take punters round, with international priced items, watch out !! Lots of big face in finding the richest punter to buy them the high end brands that simply were not there for them.
