Finding friends in the Phuket area

Hey all,

Yet another newbie intro...

I've been in Phuket for about 1.5 months now and plan to stay for some time - I'd like to meet others (especially female!) who are here long term, just to have a few mates and such (I'm not after anything sexual). My social circle here is somewhat limited and I'm not really sure how to expand it as I'm not working at the moment and don't have the funds to go out doing stuff much, i.e. hobbies, partying etc. It would be great just to have someone to go out for a coffee and have a chat with once in a while, not to mention making proper friends out here since we plan to be around for a while. Having travelled for a while I'm getting really tired of just meeting people who I'm only ever going to know briefly, the usual 'where are you from, what do you do at home, where have you been so far, where are you going next'... if you've been a traveller you know what I mean. I sometimes wished I had a laminated A4 sheet with all this information so I could hand it to anyone who speaks to me and get it over with, so we could get down to actually talking about something else!

Having said that, here's the blurb: I am a Finnish 34yo female, living with my fiance who is a dive instructor. I am also a diver but not professional. Mostly I'm interested in computers, languages (I am a professional translator), travelling, diving... used to rock-climb too but haven't done it in a while, though the rocks in Krabi look mouth-wateringly inviting. I'm a pretty easy-going person, friendly, chatty when I feel comfortable. My fiance and I both took a year out some time ago and went to Australia on a working holiday, which is where we met. After that year, things just weren't going to go back to 'normal' so here we are now, having been out since Feb 06 and lived in Indonesia for 7 months - it doesn't look like we're 'going home' but rather redefining where home is. It could well be in Phuket, providing that we can find enough work to support ourselves.

So there you go. Hi everyone!
