In the UK, a worker can be classed as working for himself (self employed) or working for a company directly (employed)
The differences are many, but most importantly, when you become directly "employed" in addition to income tax being deducted weekly we also pay a large payment of "national insurance" every week.It is something like 12% and also the employer has to pay the same amount to the government for each of the workers he employs.Consequently, the employer cannot pay the same hourly rate as before as he has the extra 12% national insurance to find each week.
I have been stiffed with a pay cut of almost 25% and all because of President Tony Blair, his government and their obsession with milking the last pound out of us.God I hate the UK!!
