There are so many advantages in doing this, it is worth the extra dollars in my mind.

Having flown so much all over the world for business and pleasure. I do not really mind to pay a bit more. Obviously, I rather go for a direct flight, but when it is on one of those holiday charters in the cattle class, then I pass.

My main 3 reasons are:
First of all the connection must be as fluent as possible. Hence, without too long waiting times on a connecting airport.

Secondly, the airline for the intercontinental flight must be a decent one. Over the years, I find the larger Asian airlines the best. So it should be SQ, Thai, CAL or Eva. My preference usually goes to SQ because of Krisflyer miles and after flying with them many many times, they never let me down.

And third, the airline must have a seat on the date I want to travel. As I am often in some kind of limited available time pressure, I need to have a flight on the days I want to travel.

This time I had no alternative than to fly through BKK.
