You can still get the 3 months tourist visa, no one said anything about that.
Without any proper visa you would be able to get 2 months tourist visa by applications at the Thai embassy, 1 month extension at immigration in Thailand, then 3 visa runs a'la 1 month a time. Which gives you a total of 6 months in Thailand. Then after that you need to leave for 6 months.
