There are guest friendly hotels which do bike rental also , I checked with Swiss Villa in Soi sansabai and they charge 180 baht a day.
They also run Orchid residence (same soi) so i would think it's the same.

Lamai hotel & Lamai inn (opposite Christins massage) also do bike rental and so do others .

Another hotel i used before is Paripas mansion which rent for 150 baht per day.

The reason i mention this is because i find this the best solution as they keep your passport in the hotel safe anyway , then you don't have to fear it going missing or any scams involving passport thefts/copying.

As for safety , please drive slow and careful as they have a driving style of their own over there. Watch out for dogs about to cross the road , also thai's that pull out of junctions into your path without warning.
No indicators used by some and no lights on the bike at night.
Always drive with your headlamp on even in daytime and always wear the helmet as this is required by the police.

This is a good site for rental as it has some driving tips that you should read
