I did some snorkling on Kata, Karon and Kata Noi.
The south end of Karon was actually my favorite of these three spots. Lots of fishes.
But you should go to Phi Phi for a day. Snorkling at Maya Bay (even if it's just for 30 minutes when you do the speed boat tour) is amazing. Khai Nok Island, on the same tour, is also good.
