I was in Phuket a couple of months ago, and unfortunately damn right prices do seem to be up.
After the tsunami they went down a bit, but Phuket is fully recovered and the prices are higher than ever. Add to that the baht is up, and the value proposition isn't what it used to be. Still a great place to be, though.
What pissed me off most was the tuk tuk drivers wanted 300-400 baht for a trip between Patong and Karon! I can get a nice air conditioned taxi between Suvarnabhumi and Sukhumvit for that price. I did manage to talk one down to 200 once during a slow period in late afternoon, but otherwise none would even consider.
