Asian beds are FIRM... maybe rock. Get used to it. At least you are not sleeping on the floor or on a futon mat on a wooden crate. You're not in Kansas anymore Dorothy.
You're not going to get creature comforts 100% of the time in Thailand, unless you are willing to spend more than you are indicating.

I have stayed in many countries in many star classes (and not rated). We spent about 3-4 hours looking for a place to stay and unfortunatly found the Nine Ten to be very poor compared to others, we then choose FERB as it was the best of the lot (did not go there first as Nine Ten had better location). Poppa was nice but not worth anthing like the money they wanted.
Firm mattress ok but as I have a bad back rock no good - no point in staying anywhere where you can't sleep - you are better to move. I expect cheap rooms to be basic, but functional. Never been to Kansas and I only use the name Dorothy at weekends but your point is wrong - 1000Bt at Nine Ten is not cheap. There are rooms avalible for 500Bt so I would expect a 1000Bt room to be a lot better. This is half the price I can get a hotel back home for so in a poor country I would expect quite a lot for this price.
The Ferb proves this is right - after just having my first night there I can say it's great. Food was fantastic and fair value - beer good price, service very good.
