Maybe 12 weeks in Italy is too long, but there's a lot to see and I feel comfortable there. I've been to all of those central European countries before, so was just going to visit some of my favourite spots again. But yes, 3 weeks is a bit slim. Wasn't going to Athens - islands are my thing - it just depends what time of year I can make it there.

That's the biggest problem with all this - given it is about 8-9 months. I can't go everywhere in spring/shoulder season. I have to be somewhere in the middle of summer, and somewhere in the cooler months. At this stage, I am looking at Spain/Portugal in winter months (quite mild there) and probably Germany or Italy in summer in August (have family in both places).
