Faulty, your editing really change the meaning of what he is saying. Speaking from experience, this isn't at all a bush-off. If they are at a Thai place, odds are they initially are out looking to meet Thai guys. As ThomasBerlin points out, if they are comfortable with speaking English, they may change targets to a farang. Again part of the fun IMO. Paying for the girls drinks is also par for the course. It's what a thai guy would do.
