I seem to have a slightly different slant as to why I get the LOS blues!!
When I step of the plane in LOS, the sense of freedom I feel is amazing!!! What I mean by that, is that the whole country is not ruled by the myriad laws we seem to have developed for ourselves in the West, to supossedly protect ourselves!!
In LOS, you have to take responsbility for your own actions, and that tends to make me realise what other people are going through, and I tend to treat them better because of it!
The Thais don't have the choices, we in the West, have in education and careers, but do the best they can!! Here in OZ, they complain if they can't get a free university education!! And don't get me started on the health and safety laws in the workplace!!!
The number of random acts of kindness I have experieced in LOS blows my mind, yet I should be the Thais prefered type of farang:- i.e. a fool easily parted with his money!!!
An example of this is when I am having a really bad time with my health in Oz, and am struggling to do my shopping with a walking stick in one hand, pushing a trolley and trying to read a list at the same time, no-one will even give me a bit more space to move, or even get out of the way!!
In LOS, some-one invariably asks if they can help me!!!
All in all, the thing that draws me back to Los, is the attitude of the people. I have always found that if you treat them well they will repay you tenfold, where as in the West, some-one will try and rip you off!!
Maybe my little rant is a little naive, but , to be able to get away from the complicated life of the West is the best holiday I can get and I always get the Blues when I leave. ( a few very nice ladies haven't helped!!)
P.S. Spent most of my working life in "the bush" anyway, so you can see that "climbing the corporate ladder" was never "my thing".
